CANNES CALLING
This weekend, we were contacted by the Cannes Film Festival, re. interest in
MOD Films and Sanctuary. Blood pressure is rising and needless to say, APRIL
5 is now the key deadline for completing the film.

SAN FRAN CALLING
This weekend, we were also contacted by the San Francisco Film Festival,
also interested in Sanctuary but looking to invite ALL films nominated this
year to donate samples to an online re-mixing library. Sound familiar? This
is potentially even more exciting than Cannes because it shows that the core
interactive idea behind the project is spreading and that MOD is on the map
at this early stage. We had a follow-up phone chat and will be exploring how
to make this happen.

SOCIAL MEDIA FROM HOLLYWOOD
"Participant believes in the power of media to create great social change.
Our goal is to deliver compelling entertainment that will inspire audiences
to get involved in the issues that affect us all." Not a grassroots
community organisation but a quote from the film producer who bankrolled
George Clooney's last two pictures. Curious as to why the film credits for
"Syriana" (a Warner Bros distributed picture) ended with what looked like an
activist URL, Michela investigated further and discovered a very interest
development in Tinsel Town.

NEWSNIGHT GOES VIRTUAL
Did anyone spot Jeremy Paxman broadcasting the BBC programme Newsnight from
inside the virtual world Second Life recently? A new kind of reportage that
will become more easy to arrange via virtual sets.

NEW FACES
Welcome aboard to all the new faces joining the virtual team this month.
Steve, Susan, Richard, Huw.. Lots of activities coming up so thank you for
volunteering precious time to be involved. Much appreciated. We're kicking
off the final round of editing and getting VFX post underway. Also
finalising what to do with all these eager re-mixers clamouring out for
assets and, not to mention, trying to get some further investment in the
business.
VIDEO SERVER HICCUPS
The web server hosting all the video for thequality.com and MOD Films
crashed last week and a replacement arrangement is in progress. This does
mean that most files are not available right now but will be back up
shortly. If anyone does have spare web server, FTP or streaming media server
capacity that could be donated to the project for 6-12 months, do contact
Michela directly. We can always use more arrangements for backups and
emergency hosting. A lot of people are going to be checking us out.
THE BETA BAND
You may have wondered why with 164 registered users to-date there never seem
to be any postings to the MOD Films discussion forums. This is because most
of the discussion is taking place in private groups specific to part of the
overall project. Now that we've got a wider group of people interested in
the project (the re-mixers sometimes referred to as the Beta Band) the aim
is turn the steady stream of personal emails into public discussions. That
way newcomers to the site will be able to get up to speed on the ideas here
more easily.
If you have any tips, information or feedback (positive or constructive
criticism!) about any aspect of the project please feel free to use the
forums to air your views. The challenge this year is to transform this
experiment ino a useful operation.
