FOUR DOCS
Channel4's four docs is first out the door in the UK with a comprehensive
user-generated content site targeted at documentary film-makers. Submissions
have to be four minutes long and factual. I haven't been able to actually
download any content as yet, nothing like peer-to-peer in evidence, but the
site looks well thought out and informative. No information on how many docs
have been submitted at this stage though! http://www.channel4.com/fourdocs

DUBPLATE DRAMA
First comics, now the PSP moves into TV terroritory. DubPlate Drama is being
billed as the world's first PSP (video) drama. Episodes will be premiered on
PSP and then on terrestrial TV 24 hours later.

BLU-RAY
Following on from Sony's decision to go with blu-ray as the optical disc
storage technology for PS3, now Warner Bros and MGM have joined the Blu-ray
Disc Association this week, making this increasingly likely as the new
defacto standard for Hollywooden content. No F.A.Q on blu-ray interactivity
support thus far, but the word is out that Java will be supported in all
blue-ray DVD players which means that the constraints of the DVD-Video
experience are soon to be forgotten. http://www.blu-ray.com

LAST*FM - INTERACTIVE RADIO DEFINED
Last*fm is the flagship product from the team that designed the
Audioscrobbler System - a music engine based on a massive collection of
Music Profiles. Each music profile belongs to one person, and describes
their taste in music. Last*fm uses these music profiles to make personalized
recommendations, match you up with people who like similar music, and
generate custom radio stations for each person. So not only can you listen
to a ton of new music on a daily basis, but you also get to effectively
network with other music fans from all over the world in a fully-interactive
online community. http://www.last.fm.com

YOUTUBE - VIDEOBLOGGING RE-DEFINED
YouTube is very much like Fickr, but for videos. You can upload videos in a
number of different formats ( .AVI, .MOV, and MPG ). The service is
completely free to users (publishers and viewers), and converts video to a
flash format, which means that the upload and playback of videos is
extremely fast. If you are a softwarer developer, YouTube offers a suite of
APIs for you to integrate YouTube videos into your applications. APIs on
YouTube are accessible through an XML interface. Through these APIs, you can
build a rich, interactive application on top of the videos hosted on
YouTube. The APIs enable you to fetch details about videos as well as fetch
videos by tags or username. http://www.youtube.com

VBLOGGING - NEW TECH TREND OR FOE QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"Following in the footsteps of text blogs, video blogs are starting to take
off on the Internet. This new form of grassroots digital media is being
shepherded along by groups of film makers and video buffs who started
pooling publishing tips and linking to each other in earnest this
year." - Heather
Green
