FILM FUNDING
A couple of last-minute completion fund applications are being worked on at
the moment in order to fund the remaining post production activities. We
wouldn't have even known about the re-structured London Artists' Film and
Video Awards if Michela hadn't been talking to the Arts Council earlier
today. Application for that one's due on Friday *gulp* Anyone got any
further leads to ProjectFunding?

SOUNDBEAM
Potential sponsor of the week, Soundbeam, are going to lend Michela an
ultrasound MIDI interface that was developed to allow dancers to trigger
sound and visuals and is now being packaged along with trusty old fave VJ
tool 'Arkaos VJ' as an "invisible keyboard" educational tool. Bring on the

MECHANICAL TURK
Amazon's beta Mechanical Turk site, where humans sign up to do menial tasks
that still befuddle machines, is a revelation and a sensation rolled up into
one fantastic marketing opportunity for the online giant. The registration
process for signing up as a Requester (i.e. you get to use the Amazon system
to request your own workers in return for a percentage) is unavailable due
to load. Stay tuned for some interesting developments to be sure. Now what
I'd like is a system for assembling a virtual team for the purposes of
making a movie. We have been trying with Sanctuary but there's more than a
few issues with culture clash. I'm betting that Amazon, proud owners of
IMDb, have something up their sleeve. http://www.mturk.com/mturk/welcome
WORLD CINEMA ONLINE
UK online distributor 'World Cinema Online', (another NESTA funded UK
venture), has around 30 titles available for purchase and/or 5-day rental.
Like the BBC's iMP, the service relies on Microsoft DRM.

FAST FILMS A GO-GO
If you've never seen Virgil Widrich's 'Fast Film', arguably one of the most
ambitious and artistic mash-up movies ever created, the film is now
available for purchase as an online download for £1.99 (VAT inc.) from World
Cinema Online. Another must-see (if you can hack the pace) is Cue Champ's
'Working Title', a wonderfully intricate video mash-up compiling the title
cards from literally thousands of feature films, which you can see right
here: http://www.cuechamp.com/working_title.htm
PROMISING NEW SCHOOL DIRECTOR QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"The revolution in production has already happened. Anyone can now make a
professional-looking film, for as little as, say, £1,000. But you could only
really show it to your friends. The revolution in distribution terms is
still to come.." - Virgil Widrich
