SOCIAL APPLICATIONS THAT GO... NING!
The guy behind Mosaic, you know the one, is behind Ning - "playground for
building and using social applications". Here's a question - does the
explosion in social applications make people any more social? I think the
jury is out on that one. What's certain though is that generations of folk
who never quite learnt how to program are now getting the chance to clone
the apps they like. Creativity of sorts in a cute wrapper.

FLOCK TOGETHER
Flock is a brand-spanking new Internet Browser based on the open source
Mozilla code base, currently available for Beta-testing at a server near
you. If you wanna take a peek at their source code, grab a binary, or start
hacking away on Flock... knock yourself out! http://www.flock.com

GOOGLE BASE
Google Base is essentially Google's database into which you'll be able to
add all types of content. Google of course will host your content and make
it searchable online for free. Rumors surrounding this service have been
spreading over the past few days, and a handful of people have managed to
catch the site when it's up (it's currently down).Though it's not formally
known when Google will officially launch the service, you can get a bit more
information about Google's burgeoning plan for World Wide Web Domination
from this article: http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20051025-5480.html

HOW COPYRIGHT LAW CHANGED HIP HOP
Here's an interesting interview with Chuck D & Hank Shocklee of Public Enemy
which talks about how hip-hop artists re-wrote the rules of the music
industry, and made the most of a very small window of opportunity from the
mid-to-late 1980s to run wild with sampling.

HIP HOP HERO QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"We thought sampling was just another way of arranging sounds. Just like a
musician would take the sounds off of an instrument and arrange them their
own particular way." - Chuck D
